Similarly, down-regulation of insulin-like pathways, including PI3K (phosphoinositide 3-kinase) mediates key, promotes longevity and is an attractive strategy to fight cancer.

In France, Fröjda S. et al demonstrated that resveratrol inhibits, in vitro and muscle cell lines, class IA PI3K and its downstream signaling in the same concentration range that activates sirtuins. Observations define class IA PI3K as a target of resveratrol that may contribute to longevity, promoting and anticancer properties and identified resveratrol as an inhibitor PI3K class-specific nature.

In an article published in the journal Nutrition, researchers Japanese found that resveratrol significantly reduced the tumor volume, tumor weight and lung metastases in mice bearing highly metastatic Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) tumors. Furthermore, resveratrol inhibited DNA synthesis most strongly in LLC cells, increased apoptosis in CLL cells, and decreased the population of S phase Resveratrol inhibits tumor-induced neovascularization in vivo model. Moreover, resveratrol significantly inhibited the formation the formation of capillary tube as from umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC), and binding of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in HUVEC.

The researchers suggest that the anti-tumor and anti-metastatic activities of resveratrol might be due to inhibition of DNA synthesis in LLC cells and induced inhibition of neovascularization LLC and tube formation (angiogenesis) of HUVECs by resveratrol.

In India, Palsamy P. and S. Subramanian conducted a study to evaluate the antidiabetic properties of resveratrol in streptozotocin-nicotinamide induced diabetes experimental rats. Diabetic rats treated with resveratrol orally for 30 days resulted in a significant decrease in glucose levels in the blood, glycosylated hemoglobin, urea, uric acid, serum creatinine and decrease in activities of pathophysiological enzymes such as aspartate transaminases, alanine aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase.

The anti-hyperglycemic nature of resveratrol evidenced by improved levels of plasma insulin and hemoglobin. Furthermore, the results are comparable with glyclazide, a standard oral antidiabetic medicine.

Therefore, these findings suggest that resveratrol may be considered as an effective therapeutic agent for the treatment of diabetes mellitus.
