Wrinkle Treatments 2011 – Invasive Vs Non-Invasive Wrinkle Treatment
There’s plenty of confusion today about what works and what’s hogwash when it comes to wrinkle treatments.
Here comes some clarity.
After analyzing several dozen studies at the University of Michigan, reports indicated that these 3 treatments definitely rejuvenate skin
a) Carbon dioxide laser resurfacing.
b) Application of cross-linked hyaluronic acid.
c) Topical retinol resveratrol creams.
Why do they work?
All three are able to replenish lost collagen.
Wrinkles form as we all know now when collagen breaks down. Age and sun exposure are the major triggers.
However, this cycle is reversible. Treatments can sweep away the old, battered collagen, and con cells into producing more.
With a half life of 15 years, you can’t expect to magically put on a potion which will stimulate the repair process deep within the skin. This simply doesn’t happen.
a) Carbon Dioxide Laser Resurfacing:
Carbon dioxide laser resurfacing has been shown to be effective but it is also invasive.
Downside: So be prepared as your face essentially becomes an oozy wound that must be rigorously cared for until healed. That simply means you are under virtual house arrest for 14 days, where the skin must be soaked with ice-cold water every few hours.
Once healed, the skin may remain red for up to six months, but for the first fortnight the skin must be layered with ointment to avoid scarring and infection.
b) Cross-Linked Hyaluronic Acid Fillers:
For an immediate fix, cross-linked hyaluronic acid or “fillers” is placed into facial folds and creases, plumping wrinkles from the inside out in about five minutes.
Essentially, cells whose collagen production has deteriorated are fooled into making more.
This has in essence replaced collagen injections. How long these fillers last depends on the amount used in the depth of the wrinkle.
Downside: These can cost between $600 to $900 for each cubic centimeter injected, so it doesn’t come cheap. Normally some swelling and a little bruising will remain afterwards for a few short days.afterwards.
c) Topical Retinol Resveratrol Creams:
Retinol derived from vitamin A works by gradually stimulating the formation of new collagen. For best results resveratrol is now combined so as to stimulate your SIRT1 enzyme, that which balances your longevity span, and by doing so helps slow down the aging process.Retinol creams with no more than 1% retinol are recommended.
Though there’s no precise way to tell a dud from a winner, always check the labels to see where retinol falls in the lineup: If it’s listed high up, it’s there in skin-benefiting concentrations. If it’s among the last five ingredients listed, it’s there to preserve the product.
No-Downside: These creams are best for small lines around the eyes and upper cheeks, not however for deep folds. Instead try topical vitamin C, which microscopic studies have shown can also boost collagen and inhibit free radical damage from the sun.
Effective products contain 10 to 20 percent L-ascorbic acid (a variation of vitamin C).
Bottom Line:
Whilst these three wrinkle treatments are described as the most effective ant aging treatments by the University of Michigan, by far the safest and cheapest option, would be a topical retinol resveratrol cream, used in combination with a healthy diet and regular exercise.
